Description

The 40B12 1" Bore (industry part number 40BS12-1 or 40BS12H-1 for the hardened version) is a single-strand, Type B finished-bore roller chain sprocket. It is precision-machined to drive standard #40 roller chain (1/2" pitch) and features 12 teeth with a pre-cut 1-inch internal diameter (ID) bore, making it ready to drop straight onto a 1" drive shaft off the shelf.
Product Specifications
  • Industry Designation: 40BS12-1 / 40BS12H-1 (Hardened)
  • Compatible Chain Size: #40 ANSI Standard Roller Chain (1/2" Pitch)
  • Tooth Count: 12 Teeth
  • Bore Diameter: 1.000 inch finished round bore
  • Keyway Size: 1/4" wide x 1/8" deep (standard on-center keyway)
  • Setscrews: Includes two 1/4"-20 setscrews (typically positioned 90 degrees apart)
  • Pitch Diameter (PD): 1.932 inches (49.07 mm)
  • Outside Diameter (OD): 2.166 inches (55.02 mm)
  • Length Through Bore (LTB): 0.875 inches (7/8")
  • Sprocket Tooth Thickness: 0.284 inches (7.21 mm)
Key Features
  • Ready-to-Install Convenience: As a Type BS "Bored-to-Size" sprocket, it bypasses the need for manual machine shop boring, featuring a fully integrated 1" shaft hole, keyway slot, and dual locking screws.
  • Induction-Hardened Teeth: Many models (marked with an "H") undergo localized high-frequency heat treatment (HRC 38–50). This drastically reduces long-term tooth wear and increases service life in severe or gritty environments.
  • Concentric Fabrication: Precision-machined from high-carbon steel with a bore structure that runs perfectly concentric to the outer pitch line, eliminating shaft run-out and dampening system vibrations.
  • Universal Component Sizing: Fabricated strictly to ANSI B29.1 benchmarks, allowing full component compatibility across major mechanical manufacturers like Martin Sprocket & Gear, Boston Gear, Nitro Chain, and Tritan.
Common Industry Applications
This compact driver sprocket is commonly deployed on electric motor outputs or reduction jackshafts within commercial automated warehouse conveyor belts, high-torque farm machinery (such as feeding equipment or spreaders), gate open/close drive mechanisms, and packaging machinery lines.
